It is May 13. Finals start in less than a week, AP tests are almost done and the seniors are graduating on Sunday. The school year is coming to an end, but in order for it to end, we have to get through finals.
Finals, especially during second semester, are either very easy or very hard. Teachers are either like, “you took the AP test and worked very hard throughout the year, and the final will just be a simple survey and a small assignment.” Or, they are like, “here is a review game and a study guide, good luck.” In terms of review games, there are a variety of good options, however, I definitely have my preferences.
5. Wayground (formally named Quizizz) – I have only ever played this in my Spanish classes to review verb tenses and remember somewhat enjoying it. It hasn’t ever been my favorite option, but it is still a good way to review class material. The game mode our class would usually play involved us climbing a mountain, and it was self-paced, which I always liked. I haven’t played this since the name change, so I can’t really speak on how the updated name has impacted the game, but it shouldn’t have changed very much.
4. Kahoot – When I think of review games, I always think of Kahoot first. Kahoot is definitely the classic, and it is always a good way to review content last minute as a class. The game itself is very face-paced, requiring one to try to answer the multiple choice question with the right answer as fast as possible. While I do like the rush of clicking the answer as fast as possible, so I can place top five in my class, the game stresses me out more than anything because the faster I try to click the answer, the less I actually retain the content.
3. Quizlet.live – This is the game most people forget about; it is built into Quizlet. The flow of the game itself is very similar to Kahoot, however, there is both a solo and team option. In the team option, each teammate gets four different answer options, only one teammate having the correct answer for said question. Then, each team rushes to try to answer all of their questions right before the other teams do. I love how there is a team option built into it, each getting their own animal name obviously, but it is definitely not the most fun when your teammates constantly miss the questions, as the game resets when a question is answered incorrectly.
2. Gimkit – I remember when Gimkit started to gain popularity when I was in middle school. It was the new game that everyone loved and always asked to play. Gimkit has a variety of different game modes ranging from catching fish to try to gain the most money all the way to team games where one tries to catch the opposing team’s flag. While Gimkit is definitely one of the better review games, it isn’t my number one choice because it was overplayed when it first came out. Although, I do appreciate how they keep adding new game modes to keep it more updated and fun.
1. Blooket – When I hear a teacher say, “get your MacBooks out and open Blooklet,” I always get so excited. Blooket is very similar to Gimkit, especially in the way they both offer a huge variety of game modes, however, Blooket will always be the one I prefer. My personal favorite game mode is called “Gold Quest” where each player answers questions and when they answer it right, they get to choose between three chests, all providing a different reward. The rewards range from 100 gold to losing 50% of your gold to even swapping with an opponent (which is my personal favorite, especially when I get it in the last five seconds), making the game based on luck. The other game modes within Blooket include “Fishing Frenzy,” “Crypto Hack” and such. Another thing that makes Blooket my favorite is the blooks, or character options, it provides. Blook packs are available to purchase with reward money earned from the games if you have an account. My personal favorite is the toast blook.
While some review games may be better than others, you truly can’t go wrong with any of them. Review games allow you to have fun and study at the same time, which is exactly what we need as students this time of year.
