Q&A with senior soccer player Baha Ibrahim

How long have you been playing soccer?

“I’ve been playing soccer since I was like 4 or 5.”

How would you describe your high school soccer experience? What was it like?

“It’s the most fun I’ve had playing soccer. It’s great getting to play with new people every year, making friendships. And it’s just overall a lot of fun.”

How do you think soccer has changed your personality?

“I think it has made me more responsible and more confident since I know I’m playing for something besides myself. I’m playing for the school and for my teammates.”

What is your favorite memory from high school soccer?

“My favorite memory is winning state last year and scoring two goals in the state final.”

What is the legacy you hope to leave behind? Do you think you have fulfilled it?

“The legacy I hope to leave behind is showing that no matter what age you are or whoever you are, anyone can do anything and break any record at the school. And almost. Two goals away.”

How do you feel about it being basically over?

“It’s definitely a really sad thing seeing how all four years went by really quickly. But it has definitely been the best four years of my life.”

How do you feel about going to state again?

“Extremely excited. Extremely prepared for it. We’re all really anxious to get on the field already and start playing.”

Is there extra pressure being a senior?

“Oh 100%. The team takes into consideration everything I say and they all want the best for me and for our school.”

Do you think there’s extra pressure knowing you’re defending a state title?

“Yes and this year we have something to prove. Since all the seniors left, basically the entire team is gone and we have something to prove and hopefully after this weekend, that will be shown.”

How do you think this weekend will go?

“I think we’re winning 5-0 today and then we’re going to win in the state final.”
