Love is Blind Review

Wolf Weekly 03/01: Opinion

This story contains spoilers for “Love is Blind” Season Six episodes 1-9.

If you know me, you know I love “Love is Blind.” The hit show premiered on Netflix in February 2020 and has been a staple ever since. The premise is as follows: 30 singles enter the dating “pods,” small rooms in which they can’t see their dates; only hear them. If a couple falls in love, “sight unseen,” the man can propose — only then can the couples see each other. The following weeks, the couple’s connections are tested as they navigate family relationships, finances and other external factors. At four weeks “post pods,” the couple will go to the altar, where they’ll get married or walk away forever.

“Love is Blind” Season Six does not disappoint. After several love triangles and tears in the pods, five couples fell in love and got engaged. Here are my thoughts on each thus far:

Brittany & Kenneth: Brittany and Kenneth were one of my favorite connections in the pods. With aligned faith journeys and life goals, the two seemed like the perfect match. But after a couple weeks in the “real world,” Brittany confessed that she didn’t feel a romantic spark. He agreed and they ended things cordially. While they weren’t great TV, per se, Brittany and Ken were still enjoyable in their confessionals, and I hope they remain friends.

Laura & Jeramey: Similar to Brittany and Kenneth, I liked Laura and Jeramey in the pods. Jeramey had two connections before his proposal, Laura and Sarah Ann, and I was glad he’d picked the former. The couple was solid, but suddenly, in episode nine, Jeramey stayed out until 5:30 a.m. with Sarah Ann, the girl he didn’t pick. Even if he only talked to her, as he claims, the behavior is in no-way excusable. Laura was rightfully angry, and it’s doubtful that they’ll move forward. Disappointing behavior from one of my favorite guys.

With Brittany and Ken and Laura and Jeramey broken-up, that leaves “Love is Blind” Season Six with three in-tact couples. Will they make it to the altar? Will they say yes?

A.D. & Clay: After a love-triangle between A.D. (Amber Desiree), Clay and master-manipulator Matthew (who left the show after A.D.’s rejection, thank goodness), A.D. and Clay got engaged. I LOVE this couple. A.D. is my favorite girl on the show, and I really like Clay, as well. While they both come from divorced parents, and are struggling to decide if they’re ready for marriage, A.D. and Clay excel in having fun with/supporting each other. Unless an unforeseen obstacle occurs, I predict that A.D. and Clay will say “I do” at the altar.

Amy & Johnny: My unproblematic kings! Besides Brittany and Kenneth, Amy and Johnny were the only couple not involved in a love-triangle; they’re committed to each other. As (in my opinion) the best couple at navigating conflict, and with the blessing of both families, I’m confident Amy and Johnny will get married at the end of the season. I’d be shocked if they didn’t. Amy and Johnny don’t have as much “drama” as some of the other couples, but they’re likable, and likable together, which cements them as my favorite couple of Season Six.

Chelsea & Jimmy: Ok…if you’ve heard anything about “Love is Blind” Season Six, you’ve heard about this couple. In the pods, Chelsea told Jimmy that she looks like Megan Fox, which, upon seeing her, Jimmy decided was untrue. Since then, Chelsea and Jimmy’s relationship has been rocky, to say the least. Chelsea’s constant need for reassurance, paired with Jimmy’s inability to be direct about his feelings, has led to several intense fights. In the pods, Chelsea and Jimmy had other connections (with the best guy ever, Trevor, and single mom, Jessica, respectively), and every episode it’s reaffirmed that they should’ve gone with these other connections, rather than each other. Honestly, there is NO way Chelsea and Jimmy are making it through the next episodes, much less to the wedding. If by some miracle they make it to the altar, I predict that Chelsea, blinded by her insecurities, will say “yes,” while Jimmy will come to his senses with a “no.”

With shows like “Love is Blind,” it’s impossible to know what behaviors are a result of editing, the brimming shoot schedule or limited food/sleep, but it’s still fun to analyze the relationships from a viewer’s perspective. I’m excited to see the last episodes of Season Six, who says “I do,” and who walks away forever.
