A scene starts with a plastic sword brawl. Another with man demanding for a ‘sammich.’ Yet another with a cliche musical battle. It seems like these very different scenes can’t relate. But they do, all are a part of this year’s spring play.
“It’s a bunch of Greek myths in Olympic fashion,” sophomore Jake Louis said.
“The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” is basically one big reenactment of all of Greek mythology. It covers everything from “Jason and the Argonauts” to “The Iliad” in a way as humorous as possible.
In a similar style as “The Laramie Project,” the play is double casted. Students involved play a wide variety of characters in many different scenes because most characters end up only showing once or twice.
A wide array of Greek gods will make an appearance with regulars such as Aphrodite, Hercules, Athena and, of course, Zeus. But two students who play characters anything but Greek are the narrators. Sophomore Matara Hitchcock and Louis play the two narrators with conflicting personalities.
“It’s freaking hilarious,” Louis said.
Rehearsals are everyday in the PAC until around five and everyone always seem to be having a good time. But describing what exactly goes on can be a challenge.
“Rehearsal is like a mass of fun, outgoing people rocking it out on stage,” freshman Hannah Seyl said.
Another freshman, Erica Christie added:
“It’s all of us running around laughing while being serious the entire time,” Christie said.
“It’s all of us running around laughing while being serious the entire time,” Christie said.
One moment of rehearsal that does stand out was when sophomore Kyle Drum knocked down a whole pillar while trying to dance in the West Side Story scene.
“If you want to know if he kicks another one down, come see the show,” junior Hersh Ellis said.
Although many students haven’t realized there is another play, after they hear what it is about they are eager to see the final production. Most seem drawn to it because of the featured myths.
“It sounds like an interesting parody on Greek mythology,” said freshman Holly Long.
The play opens April 19 and runs through the 21st and is sure to be a great production.
“We’ve put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears all for you guys,” freshman Caleb Jenkins said.
