How to deal the best with stress: exchange student give tips

The American way of (high school) life tends to be buzzy and stressful, phrases like ‘I’m so stressed, I have so much to do’ is something you hear daily through the hallways. BVSW News finds out if stress is just something that just belongs with being a human or if there are places on this planet who found out the ‘anti-stress solution’.

‘’The north of my country is more focused on the work life, while the south is more relaxed.’’ senior and (North-)Italian exchange student Federica Ferreri said. ‘’They always want to do everything perfectly and on time.’’

Federica thinks the American lifestyle is less stressful than the one she’s used to, because the American relationships are more open, which makes you be surrounded in a continuously relaxed vibe.
In Italy, Federica used to work-out and go out with friends to get rid of stress. In here, she takes dancing classes and she hangs out with American teenagers and other exchange students.

Federica is not the only one of this school who got in contact for the first time this year with the American way of life.

‘’In America, most of the people are more independent,’’ senior and Thai exchange student Mook Somwong said.’’You have your own car, your own part-time job.’’

Just like Federica, Mook also thinks that the American lifestyle is less stressful than the one of the people in Thailand. She does think that the American lifestyle is a bit stressful though.

‘’In here, people are really strict with time,’’ she said

Mook’s tips to deal with stress are listening to up-beat music and buying good food ( while she giggles, she whispers that she’s not good in cooking ).

David Myers, has hosted several students who went to Southwest. He says that once his exchange students got used to the American lifestyle, they did not think it was stressful.

Senior Maddie Snow went on an exchange to France, where she noticed that the lifestyle over there was less stressful.
‘’There wasn’t much school spirit or many activities to do after school,’’ Snow said.

She feels like this lifestyle is more stressful because everyone is constantly moving and doing things like clubs and sports.

’’In America people tend to want to do something all the time, and we don’t take a lot of time to sit and take a break.’’senior Ananda Bhatia said. ‘’We’re overly concerned with being busy every second of the day.’’

Ananda thinks the American life style is stressful, but she has tips to get rid of that stress: good time management, take time to do what you want to do and try to have as much fun in things as possible.
