Athletic trainer appears in court

Athletic trainer arrested and charged for sexual exploitation of a child

On March 31, Christopher Poskey, 39, was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child under 18 years old. Poskey was an athletic trainer employed by the University of Kansas Health System and had worked at Blue Valley Southwest for nine years.

His bond was first set at $250,000 and he is currently being held in Johnson County Adult Detention Center. During an initial hearing on April 3, the bond was reduced to $150,000 and Poskey is now allowed to have contact with his own children and communicate with Blue Valley School District regarding employment termination. His next trial is scheduled for April 19 at 10 a.m.

Principal Tyler Alexander sent an email out to parents Friday evening informing them of the news.

“There are no words strong enough to describe the difficult and serious nature of these charges,” Alexander said in his message to parents. “We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement investigation.”

The University of Kansas Health System has not yet assigned a new permanent athletic trainer to work at the school. However, Alexander said the health system will be assigning a substitute athletic trainer.
