Madison Leighty, writer
Madison is a first-year staff writer for the Standard, and spends her work time writing articles or doodling in the margins of her official newspaper notebook. She has been reading since age three, and writing almost as long. Her favorite thing about reporting is the ability to both capture an event or person and use it to initiate change. At Southwest, she is also involved in art and can frequently be found in the 2D room working on multimedia projects. She is passionate about art, social justice, and invoking people’s interest through her writing. Outside of school, she enjoys painting, writing music, and blogging. At any given moment, she can probably be found listening to music or shopping for new combat boots. Madison is very enthusiastic for her first year on newspaper, and hopes to both improve her writing and impact students and staff at Southwest.
