The mystery of the chicken suit

KAY club is a group that students can choose to belong to in order to gain leadership skills and earn community service. From Sept. 16 to 20 there was an unique opportunity for a school-wide fundraiser provided through KAY club. Eight teachers (Brittany Harding, Kelley Alexander, Amanda Durnal, Jim Facciano,Dustin Leochner, Shauna Rinearson, Charles Golden and Katherine Buchanan) volunteered to have a jar with their picture on it and students were encouraged to donate loose change. The money was going towards the Red Cross.

The teacher at the end of the week with the most money in their jar was supposed to wear a chicken suit to school on Monday Sept. 23. However, many people did not see a teacher wearing this outfit.

Junior Romaric Keuwo was surprised to find out about the past opportunity. He thought it would have been hilarious.

“I honestly never heard anything about a chicken suit until this morning,” Keuwo said. “ I do not ever want to see a teacher wearing such attire [laughs]. Just kidding that would be pretty entertaining. It saddens me that I didn’t get to mock my wonderful teachers in their dressing as a fowl animal. But hey, everybody has a hobby, right?”

Junior Marin Hoskins thought it was a good idea because more people would be encouraged to donate.

“I did not see a teacher wearing the chicken suit,” Hoskins said. “It made me pretty disappointed because I heard it was going to be Ms. Buchanan. I wanted it to be her because she didn’t really want to and we thought it’d be funny. However, I did not donate though. I thought it was a good idea because it would get more people to donate to the cause.”
