BVSW Boys Basketball Feb. 17 @ Bishop Miege/ Spring Baseball

On Feb. 17, Blue Valley SouthWest will face off with Bishop Miege at 8 p.m. at Miege.  This will be the last time these two teams will play each other in the regular season.

Southwest is near the bottom of the EKL with 7-9 record and Miege is at the top with a 12-3 record.

“Going into sub-state, it’s important to win as many games as we can and getting a win against one of the tops teams in the EKL is a good confidence booster,” junior point guard Miles Lester said.

“If we win, it will be a big momentum swing going into the postseason and it will give us experience in finishing games,” senior post Steven Anderson said.

It will not be an easy job for either team to pull off the victory. But Miege is a very good team and it will be difficult for Southwest to pull off the upset. It will be a game with a lot of hype and will come down to which team executes the best.

“In order for us to win, we must take care of the basketball, limit transition points, not allow straight line drives, contest all shots, and rebound,”  head coach Mark Rabbitt said.

Southwest will be riding the back of their 5 seniors and their 2 best players junior shooting guard Matt Wilkinson and Miles Lester. Miege will be looking to their senior point guard Reggie Byers and their best player sophomore shooting guard Semaj Ray. A key matchup you will want to pay close attention to is between Lester and and Byers. Lester has been playing well lately, but Byers has had the upper hand most of the year.

The student section could be a big advantage for Miege. But this is unlikely going to be a factor considering it’s a Tuesday night.

“Coming off a big win against West, we now know how to close out games and have the experience to beat Miege,” Coach Rabbitt said.

This game could decide on how the Timberwolves do in Sub-State and potentially State. It would be a very big for Southwest to knock of the 12-3 Stags.
