The Blue Valley Southwest freshman volleyball team has come a long way since the beginning of their season in August.

Hannah Peterson says that there are not any specific starters on their volleyball team. She says that the group that starts each of their games depends on who the team will be playing. So far there have been many different groups that have started their games this season.

Hailey Jacobson says that she thinks the first game the team had played was their worst. They lost 10-25.

“We didn’t really know how to play together,” said Jacobson. “But we have been working on playing as a team better, and I think that we have improved a lot.”

She says she thinks that practicing often has helped the volleyball team get better since the team has been losing games by a lot less than in the beginning of their season. They lost their first game 10-25, and have lost their most recent game 19-25.

Amelia Guenther says that the team works a lot on passing and serve receive when they practice. Guenther says that the team has been passing a lot better in games than they had been in the beginning of the season. She says that they also sprint during practices to help them get in better shape for their upcoming games this season.

“We have practice a lot, which has probably helped our team play a lot better,” Guenther said. “Practice is hard, but it’s great to spend time with my team.”

On September 15, the freshman volleyball team played against Blue Valley Northwest’s freshman team. Blue Valley Southwest lost 20-25, but Jacobson believes that so far, this has been the volleyball team’s best game.

“It was our closest game,” she said. “I think that we all played well because we really played like a team and everyone tried their hardest.”

The team has not won any games yet, but Jacobson remains optimistic.

“We hope to continue to get better,” she said. “Our team still has some things that I think we need to work on, but if we continue to try our hardest, I think that we can do a lot better and start winning games.”
