Everyone loves a Glitter Girl

The Glitter Girls have started off the season and their coach Alex Hess is very proud. Also as a new coach of the team she is very excited to coach these group of girls.

“My goals as a coach include pushing the girls to be the best they can be. I hope to combine a strong work ethic and positive attitude to inspire the team to reach new levels.”

All of the girls are very excited to be a part of the glitter girls this year and they have been working really hard to perform at the games and assemblies.

“Each and everyone of the girls puts so much dedication into what we do and I am excited for the rest of the student body to appreciate it. I absolutely love to be a glitter girl. We are one happy family” said Malerie Moore.

The Glitter Girls have elemented flag work for the season, so now they will be focusing more on dancing at the football and basketball games, pep assemblies, and other events.

“I am a new coach at Southwest, half of our team is comprised of new members, and we are experiencing a new season structure. I believe all of these new experiences are building a stronger team. Since we are no longer involved in the competitive field show, we are spending a lot of time exploring new ways to support Southwest through our dancing” said coach Hess.

They had performed at the pep rally on the first day of school, then cheered at their first varsity football game on September 5th at Blue Valley High School.

“As a team we just always want to be there for each other and build each other up, not tear each other down. Our team is really close, it feels like I have 7 extra sisters, and I can trust them and go to them for anything” said Julie McKenzie.

The Glitter Girls will be cheering at the next home game on Oct. 2 at Blue Valley High.

“I am really excited for the game because its really fun to look out at the crowd and see how supportive our school is and how spirited we are and I feel blessed to be a part of it” said Malerie.

“I don’t really get nervous when performing at the games, its just a lot of fun to be a part of cheering for our school” said Julie.
On Saturday Sept. 27, the Glitter Girls are car hopping at Sonic on 151st from 2-5 to fundraise for competitions.
Also coming up is the cheerball which is a dance where all the dance teams and cheerleaders from schools in Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission and Olathe get together.
The Glitter Girls are also going to be doing a Dance marathon on Nov. 14 from 6-9 p.m. in the gym. The money raised at this event will fund for the Glitter Girls season. But they will also share half of the profits with a local organization that provides dance lessons, and opportunities for children with limited resources.
Hannah has been at the Southwest games and she loves to see the glitter girls dancing “their dances are complex and fun to watch” said Hannah Peterson.
Samantha Gabler is so excited to be a part of the glitter girls, and she loves how she gets to dance with these great group of girls. This is also her first year of being a glitter girl.
“Once a Glitter Girl always a Glitter Girl” said Samantha.
