1-2 Freshman Football are turning things around, working on improving to get to a .500 record

Freshman football brings many opportunities for freshman to be active and to be involved. It takes a lot of work and pain but it all is worth it once you get out on the field under the lights and play the game you love so much, and to call yourself a Timberwolf.

High school football is a big change over middle school and peewee football. During the summer, the players had to wake up early, get to the school by 8:10 and workout until 11. Freshman Chris Logan says“the hardest part of summer workouts was the last 30 minutes.”The team worked very hard throughout the summer to compete and open its season up against Blue Valley North on Sept. 4. The Timberwolves defense played great shutting the Mustangs down in regulation. But in overtime the Mustangs scored winning the ball game in overtime, 7-0.

“We worked hard and played our hearts out so it was tough to swallow, but we are improving every week so this won’t happen again,” freshman lineman Jake Swickard said.

The next week the T-Wolves squared off against Shawnee Heights @BVSW. This game was an offensive game. The final score to the game was 28-25 Shawnee Heights coming out victorious. The Timberwolves now have lost two games  in a row. Freshmen running backs Nick Allen and Noah Green both had two running touchdowns. Unfortunately Green left the game early due to injury.

Freshman running back says“After two heartbreak losses my focus and goals still do not change.”, said Noah Green

The next game for the freshman team was against Gardner Edgerton at BVSW. After the first quarter Gardner lead 7-0. The Trailblazers soon added to their lead with a rushing touchdown in the second quarter taking a 14-0 lead.

The Timberwolves never backed down. Answering with a rushing touchdown by freshman running back Nick Allen. The Timberwolves did not stop there the defense created multiple turnovers to create another rushing touchdown by freshman running back Nick Allen, tying the game 14-14.

The freshman running back did not slow down scoring two more touchdowns taking the lead and giving the Timberwolves their first win of the season, 35-22.

Freshman running back Nick Allen says“It really felt good to have an impact and contribute to the win.”

The Timberwolves next game is 6 p.m. at Blue Valley High School.
