On April 6, the JV baseball players walked out to their home field to slay the Lansing Lions, holding a record of 2-2. New chalk is laid and the last warm-up pitch is thrown. All jerseys are tucked in and laces are tied. Southwest is looking for another win.
“I felt great before the game because the team and I knew we were going to win,” sophomore Calvin Dahms said.
After their win against St. Thomas Aquinas the team and their coach decided to keep the winning streak going.
“Frase reminds us of our goal of 15 wins for the season and then we break it off,” Dahms said.
Ever since coach Frase told the team about the 15 win goal they have been motivated to work toward it every second they are on the field.
“I hope to fulfill our goal in our upcoming games,” coach Jeff Frase said.
Giving 110 percent during the battle against the Lions Blake Ware and Mitch Thorman pitched their hearts out on the mound throwing several strikeouts, and after their hard effort on defense they hustled to the dugout to get some runs in for themselves.
Sadly, no home runs or grand slams were hit off of the Timberwolves bats, but the team was still able to shut Lansing out with the run rule, only playing three innings and ending with a score of 15-0 the first game. The team also pulled out another three inning spread and ended with the score of 16-0 in the second game.
“Even though we won both of our games we will continue to battle tough against every team we play,” freshman Brendan Stanek said.
These Timberwolves only have to wait until tomorrow for their next game at home against Sumner Academy.
“I’m proud of my team and hope that they continue to work hard to be the best players they can be and represent Southwest in a positive manner,” Frase said.
