On Monday, April 9, the JV softball team thundered onto the Bishop Miege softball field with only one thing on their minds, victory. Even though the players were so far from home they felt the support of the school with them.
“I always feel nervous before a game but I felt that with the support of the team and school we could do anything,” freshman Chelsea Schupp said.
Before the Bishop Miege game, the JV team had a 3-4-1 record.
“I believe if the team keeps up our hard work we’ll win a lot of games in the future,” freshman Anna Dickerson said.
Megan Rowe pitched the first game, which only lasted 5 innings. Southwest won the game 15-1, ending it early because of the run rule.
“It was our team’s first real shutout,” Schupp said. “Just feeling the excitement from that first game really brought us together for the second.”
In the first game both Hannah Micheal and Laura Vanderheiden hit a homerun, bringing in the runs for the Timberwolves.
“My favorite part of the game was either when Hannah hit the homerun or when I hit one to right field. It had not been my best offensive game to date and to hit a double was just great,” Dickerson said.
The team managed to whip up 18 runs in the second game in only three innings. Elena Renner pitched that game and didn’t let one run get in for Miege. Vanderheiden hit another homerun and the girls defense was impeccable.
“The wins were definitely a confidence booster. It added to the happy atmosphere and it made the game memorable,” Dickerson said.
After the whoops and cheers of celebration from the team, they packed their bags and headed home, anticipating the next time they would step onto the field.
