Every year, people debate over whether chocolate or fruity candies are better. For me, there is a clear winner: fruity candy. Fruity candy is far superior to chocolate for many reasons, including the wide variety of flavors, tastes and consistencies.

There is such a variety of different flavored fruity candies that you just can’t get with chocolate, and there’s always one for everyone — whether that be cherry, grape, green apple or blue raspberry. The burst of flavor you get out of a Starburst or other fruity candy is unmatched to anything a Twix could offer. Another perk of fruity candy is you can get both sweet and sour treats. With chocolate candy, everything is always sweet, but at least with fruity candies, you can pick whether you want a sweet treat or a sour one — adding to the offered varieties. And finally, I love that fruity candy can come in both gummy and hard candy form. All of these options that make up fruity candies solidify why they’re better than chocolate candies, allowing people more variety and options for what treat they’d like.

Although I prefer fruity candies, I admit chocolate candy is good too. I’ll always reach for a fruity candy over a chocolate bar, but the occasional Twix or Milky Way is always good too. But since fruity candies are superior to all, here’s a ranking of my top three favorite fruity candies, and why:

      3. Trolli Gummy Worms
Trolli Gummy Worms are a staple fruity candy, and something that everyone loves. The multi-flavored gummy worms offer a variety of taste, and allow you to get a mixture of flavors in just one piece. Having two flavors earns the candy bonus points, as well as being in a fun shape. This candy is sweet, chewy and the flavors are good — which is why it earns a spot on this list.

      2. Nerds Gummy Clusters
Nerds Gummy Clusters, a more recent candy, definitely deserve a spot in the top three. The popularity of this candy in the last few years is amazing, and rightfully so. The texture and makeup of this candy is so unique — crunchy, sour, sweet and chewy. This unique makeup is what makes the candy so good, because you get such a variety in just one bite, and anyone who has had one of these also knows they are extremely addicting, adding to their popularity.

      1. Sour Patch Kids
The best fruity candy — and just the best candy overall — is without a doubt, Sour Patch Kids (bonus points for the watermelon ones). Sour Patch Kids offer five different flavors in just the regular packaging, but you can also get watermelon and strawberry ones. The variety in just this candy alone is why it’s in the top spot on this list, but it doesn’t stop there. Sour Patch Kids are the perfect mix of sweet and sour, and are the perfect size. An added bonus of this candy is that it comes in so many different packaging sizes: individual mini bags, boxes, the medium-sized bags to share and the giant bags to bring to a party.
