As September comes around, it quickly brings a festive autumn and winter mood filled with a variety of activities and comfort foods. The “Ber” months start in September and include October, November and December. While it is hard for many to let go of the summer mood, long days, high UVs and fun outdoor activities, it’s hard to argue against the fun things the “Ber” months bring.
For me at least, this time of year brings out a certain nostalgia; the festive spirit brings back memories of trick-or-treating, prepping for holidays and being excited to go jump in a pile of leaves or go sledding. The overall fall vibes make this the best time of the year; there’s always something to look forward to, and it makes the time pass faster and makes everything a bit more enjoyable.
Starting in September, there are Friday night football games to go to, which gives people something to look forward to each week, and it starts every weekend off with fun. Additionally, September is one of the most common months for birthdays, so the chance of you either having a birthday or going to someone else’s birthday festivities is pretty high. This gives you even more things to look forward to throughout the month.
Next is October, which brings the true fall vibe. While many people say summer is the best season, think about how perfect the fall weather and vibe truly are in October. The nights get crisper, and the weather isn’t hot, but it isn’t too cold either; it is perfect. An even better part is that later at the end of the month is Halloween, and the build-up to that tends to be even better than the day itself.
Following October is November, a month that is seriously overlooked but should be appreciated more. The month gives people a break between Halloween and the bigger holidays to come in the late winter, but it also offers Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is super underrated, but think about all the amazing, comforting foods that it brings. Pumpkin pie, rolls, mashed potatoes, turkey and even warm drinks like hot chocolate, all of which are peak comfort foods. And an extra plus is the fact that Thanksgiving comes with its own break, so you can get a week off from school to go appreciate the beautiful changes in nature.
Finally, is December, yes, there are first semester finals, but in all honesty, it’s so overlooked by all the holiday preparations that everyone is in too good a mood to care. After finals are over, you have a two-week break that is quite refreshing. Regarding the weather, December weather isn’t the muggy, slushy brown winter; it’s the pretty, fluffy snow winter. Plus, even if winter weather isn’t for you, cozying up in fluffy blankets watching holiday films with hot chocolate and warm cookies never misses.
So if you didn’t already agree, maybe after all these reasons, you will agree that these months, even if not the best, have a lot to offer and give us all something to look forward to when completing the year. Hopefully, the idea of delicious foods, timeless traditions, festive decorations and fun activities will make you realize they are the best.
