Within the past couple of weeks, there have been an incredible number of new music albums and singles released from many popular music artists. I am a huge music lover, and have had lots of these albums on repeat since they released, so here is an honest ranking of some of my favorites.
3. “Man’s Best Friend” by Sabrina Carpenter
This may have been the most anticipated album on this list, as Sabrina Carpenter is such a popular artist. She has many #1 hits, especially on her last album “Short and Sweet,” such as “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” Although Carpenter originally received a lot of backlash and controversy when she first announced the album due to its “inappropriate” cover, I enjoyed the album itself. “Man’s Best Friend” is very fun and upbeat, with lots of humor in the lyrics. It definitely contains adult themes and messages, however it portrayed Sabrina’s transition from her childhood into a more mature era of her life. Honestly, I don’t think this is Sabrina’s best work, and I expected a little bit more from this album. I still enjoyed it, though I liked her previous albums more, so I would rate this a 6/10.
2. “A Matter of Time” by Laufey
This album is so whimsical, and Laufey’s vocal tone is absolutely stunning. Laufey’s style of music is primarily jazz, which you don’t hear often in the modern world. “A Matter of Time” mixes jazz with a more contemporary style, which is incredibly unique. Just like Conan Gray, she is a magnificent lyricist and vocalist, and this album really demonstrates what she is capable of. The sheer emotion in this album is breathtaking, which she portrays through her intricate lyrics, orchestral instrumentals and difficult yet soothing vocals. I could listen to this album over and over again and never get bored, so I give this album a 10/10.
1. “Wishbone” by Conan Gray
This album is honestly a masterpiece. You may know Conan Gray from his popular songs like “Maniac” and “Heather” or his three previous albums: “Kid Krow,” “Superache” and “Found Heaven,” however I believe “Wishbone” may be his best work yet. It is an incredibly vulnerable album, as he sings about the different emotions that come with love and heartbreak, and uses many metaphors and figurative language to make these feelings even more descriptive. As well as being an incredible lyricist, Conan Gray also has a very unique and beautiful voice I could listen to for hours. This is definitely my favorite on the list, so I also give this album a 10/10.
There are so many more new albums from the past few weeks, including Sombr’s debut album “I Barely Know Her,” “Bite Me” by Renee Rapp, “KARMA” by Stray Kids, “The Clearing” by Wolf Alice and “Rocket” by Dominic Fike. Also, Taylor Swift just announced her 12th album “The Life of a Showgirl” which releases on Oct. 3. This is a big win for the music industry, as Taylor is arguably the most popular name in music today.
