As with the start of any new school year, there have been revisions to the system. This year, two substantial changes have been implemented regarding TIPS and GroupMe.
Timberwolf Independent Plan of Study, also known as TIPS, was one of the academic times slotted into block day schedules as the second half of advisory on Even days. This year, however, activities director Mallory Huseman said it has been changed to be Academic Support Time to give students more time to work with others throughout the week.
“The big shift is that clubs were needing more opportunities to meet, and so we’re trying to find a way [to get] clubs to meet more often,” Huseman said.
Additionally, a new district policy has been applied. GroupMe, a communication platform used schoolwide, is no longer viable. Instead, apps like Band and Bound are available to keep in touch with people and groups or clubs.
“The school board is always looking at creating a safe environment for all parties, whether it’s for teachers or for students,” Huseman said. “We have a lot of kids involved in a lot of different activities, clubs and sports, and trying to get on the same page as a building [is a challenge].”
