Wolfgong show cancelled

Wolfgong show cancelled

On Nov. 8, the choir show Wolfgong was to be performed in the PAC. In order to participate and be a part of the show, choir students had to pick a song and audition. They were critiqued then worked hard to improve their selected piece.

However, this year there will not be a Wolfgong show. Upcoming concerts in less than a month need a lot more work. This year was to be the first year where the performance was student-led and produced but choir teacher Susan Schiebler decided to cancel it after she felt that it would not be possible to both be fully prepared for the concerts and have Wolfgong ready to go.

Junior Alexis Arreola worked hard to prepare his chosen piece.

“I was upset [about Wolfgong being cancelled] because Wolfgong is always fun to watch and be in,” Arreola said. “I was going to perform “Listen” by Beyonce and I was going to accompany Tori Haas on violin for “Leave the Pieces” by The Wreckers. I spent about 20 minutes on “Listen” every day because it is such a tough song and about 30 minutes on “Leave the Pieces” every weekend. I think the date could have been moved because it’s something that students and parents look forward to; however, there is difficulty rescheduling due to other events happening so I think it was a good choice. We still have Spotlight to look forward to, right?”

Junior Madison Leighty sees this as the only possible solution.

“I was going to attend a meeting to participate in it but found out that Wolfgong was cancelled,” Leighty said. “I’m disappointed-I would have liked to perform and watch the other acts. Chorale was doing something and I would have performed with them, but I did not have an act planned for myself. I don’t see any other option but cancelling-if we had more time, I would have liked to see it happen, but we weren’t ready to pull it together in time.”

On the other hand, junior Brooke Tilley believes that the situation could have been handled differently.

“I wanted to see Wolfgong because my friends were doing solos and it’s a fun event overall, but we didn’t have enough time to prepare as a choir,” Tilley said. “Kat Weiner and I were going to sing “Royals” by Lorde; however, we decided not to because we didn’t practice it together enough. We didn’t spend that much time preparing, more like no time at all. I don’t think  we should have cancelled it, but most of the responsibility of putting it together was on us although I feel like we should have stepped up and figured it out.”
