Here is some inside to what some Blue Valley SouthWest students think about what the meaning of a “trend” actually is. There is also information on the ways of individuality in fashion. Fashion is a hard thing to put into words because it has so many different meanings depending upon the person. The importance of fashion can be irrelevant to some and the most important thing to others.

“Fashion is definitely important because it lets you express who you are through it,” Tatum Mays,16, said. “It can represent who you are and how confident you are to wear what you want.”

It’s interesting to see how much of society dresses to please themselves and how others dress to impress others. It’s a sad thing how some people feel that they can’t wear what they want because other people will critique them for it.

“Sometimes I don’t wear what I want because I think I will be judged,” Libbie Louis, 15, said. “Or I get judged because I wear that anyways.”

Some people just stick with the trends so they don’t have to worry about being judged for wearing what they want. A trend in fashion is something new or old that is popular or has come into style.

“A trend is a style or idea that is popular for a while but usually fades out eventually,” Sophomore, Ava Davis, said.

It’s what people might refer to as “in season” or something that everyone is into. Trends shouldn’t define what fashion is though. Trends can sometimes be silly because people depict their stuff upon what everyone else likes instead of what they like.

“Fashion is definitely about individuality, because if you stay with the trend, then you will be just like everyone else,” Louis said.

Ava Davis said she chooses individuality over trends because you shouldn’t have to follow everybody else.

Not many people have enough courage to actually wear what they want because they would rather just follow everybody else rather than stand out. It’s better for people to have individuality in their style and they should be able to dress how they want.

“Fashion shows others who you are, whether you mean to or not,” Davis said.

The people who dress based on trends and there are the people who dress for others. There are the people who dress to the limits of price and there are the people who dress to show themselves off. There are the people who dress how they want no matter other people’s opinions. That’s when I say you have style. When you don’t give a care in the world about other people’s judgements and you wear the style who portrays who you are.

“I dress the way I do because it reflects who I am,” Louis said.

Be confident in what you wear and don’t limit yourself to wearing what others will approve of. What’s the fun in blending with everyone else? Style is a word that is different for each individual in the world because it is the way you dress yourself and the way you let the world see you as who you are.

” If I could describe the community’s fashion style in one word it would be diverse. Because ever person has their own style, and I believe they all like to express it, some through fashion,” Louis said.
