Blue Valley High is known as the “hick” school. Blue Valley West is known as the “prep” school. But for us here at Blue Valley Southwest, we are still trying to make a name for ourselves. As we tried to get through the awkward transitional stage, bonds between our new and home schools are tested. We watch as people transferred back to BV High and BV West and left Southwest without even giving it a second glance.
But for those who decided to stay, they have seen the school come together after a couple rough weeks. On Sep. 30, many of us filled the bleachers to cheer on the Timberwolves against the Jaguars. The game was all but lost until the team banded together to finally defeat the Jags 36-35. The sound coming from the visitor’s side was deafening as the final seconds rolled off the clock.
From screaming ‘Green Machine’ to storming the field at the final whistle, Southwest proved that we were not a school to take lightly. Our fans are loyal and our team is strong. As students, we came together against a school that over half of us started our high school careers in.
A school is compiled of many things: a strong faculty, an energetic student body and supportive parents. We started out with the strongest faculty in the district, led by principal Scott Roberts. He excited us about this opportunity from the very beginning. However, an energetic student body came a bit later. Less and less spiritwear from the other schools is being seen in the halls and more and more students are being seen in the bleachers at sporting events.

We came, we faced and we conquered. The first football win in the record books will certainly not be the last. That game will go down in history as the game that united Southwest forever.
