Student Star: Evanna Dominic Finalist for $25,000 Scholarship

Southwest Senior Evanna Dominic is one of only 25 students in the nation selected as a finalist for the National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship. She’s in Washington D.C. for National Student Leadership Week and a chance to receive a $25,000 scholarship as the national winner. The 24 others will receive a $5,625 scholarship.

Dominic was selected based on her commitment to the four pillars of the NHS; scholarship, leadership, service and character.  

National Honor Society sponsor Laura Williamson encouraged students and faculty to congratulate Dominic when they see her, since being selected is a big deal. “Tens of thousands of people apply for this scholarship every year, so this is huge,” said Williamson.

Dominic is one of the first females in America to earn the distinction of Eagle Scout. For her Eagle Project, she hosted a food drive to alleviate food insecurities for students ages K-12 in the Blue Valley School District. Dominic also heads the district Relay for Life campaign for the American Cancer Society. She is also the president of Southwest’s Diversity Club,ReBEl club and an executive member of Sources of Strength, a suicide prevention group.

Earlier this semester,  Dominic was awarded the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Scholarship and received a 2022 Coca Cola Scholar award worth $20,000.

The young leader has aspirations to one day become a physician.
