This year’s freshman class is the biggest in school history at 299 students. With numbers like that, a strong voice is needed. Freshman Raina Hilaly was elected as freshman class president.
“I was really surprised when I heard [I was picked for class president], I had to ask again to make sure I heard them right,” Hilaly said.
Hilaly was a member of the Aubry Bend student council. She said she enjoys being a leader for others and was interested in what the student council was like in high school.
“I want to make sure everybody is included and make sure everybody feels like we’re a well-rounded class,” Hilaly said.
She credits her campaign as being influenced by her family and friends.
“[My sister] always guides me and she’s always there when I need advice,” Hilaly said. “Since she is 10 years older than me, she has a lot more experience.”
With Homecoming next week, Hilaly said she is looking forward to hallway decorating.
“We’ve had a few bumps in the way for ideas and stuff but I’m excited for people to see how [the freshman hallway] turns out,” Hilaly said.
Hilaly said she is excited for this opportunity to lead her class alongside the other five freshman class representatives.
“I feel very honored that my grade trusted me in this position,” Hilaly said.
